About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Electrical System Architect, where you'll be responsible for defining electrical system requirements, performing architecture and design trade studies, and owning the development of high-performance, cost-effective electrical systems for our thermal energy storage products and projects.

As part of our team, you'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the highest performing, lowest cost electrical system across all our projects. You'll also lead and support electrical R&D initiatives, contribute to code compliance efforts, create detailed system design documents and diagrams, evaluate and select suitable technologies and components, and oversee the integration of electrical systems and components into larger systems.

Responsibilities

  1. Work with stakeholders to gather and analyze system requirements.
  2. Translate business and technical requirements into detailed electrical system designs.
  3. Ensure system designs meet performance, reliability, and regulatory standards.
  4. Oversee the integration of electrical systems and components into larger systems.
  5. Develop and execute testing plans to validate system performance and functionality.
  6. Troubleshoot and resolve issues during the integration and testing phases.
  7. Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and hardware engineering teams to ensure cohesive system development while meeting project milestones.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience as a system architect or in a similar role with a focus on high-power electrical systems, focusing on performance, efficiency, and scalability of systems up to 34.5kV and 100+MW.
  • Experience with trade studies to determine the optimal configuration of the electrical systems, including voltage levels, power electronic applicability, and protection schemes.
  • Experience with conceptual electrical system design, integration, and testing in a relevant industry (e.g., automotive, aerospace, energy, EV, power generation or storage).
  • Proficiency in electrical design and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, PSpice, PSCAD).
  • Experience designing, prototyping, and bringing switching based power electronics to market. The ideal applicant will be able to evaluate different power delivery solutions to confirm initial installation and operational requirements.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements related to industrial electrical systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and failure root-cause analysis experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Additional Qualifications Desired

  • Mentor and lead more junior engineers.
  • Participate in product full cycle development - from conceptual phase to prototype, site deployment, and operations.
