Fleet Maintenance Technician Job Description

This is a semi-skilled to skilled technical role where you'll be responsible for performing routine and complex maintenance and repair tasks on a wide range of vehicles and equipment, including automobiles, light and heavy trucks, tractors, and specialized equipment. You'll work under general supervision, with assignments received either orally or in writing, and will be expected to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair vehicles and equipment, including greasing and lubricating moving parts, servicing batteries and other components, and making minor adjustments and repairs.
  • Perform complex repairs and replacements, including engine overhauls, brake repairs, and transmission work.
  • Service and repair heavy road equipment in garage or field locations, including changing oil, oil filters, and fuel filters.
  • Detect and diagnose mechanical malfunctions, and perform tests to locate defects in operation.
  • Perform minor body repairs, check wheel alignment, and correct body rattles.

Requirements:

  • 3 months of semi-skilled experience in automotive repairs, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid State-issued driver's license, and possession of a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) Class A, B, or C issued by the State of Missouri prior to the end of the employee's probationary period.
  • Valid State of Missouri Inspector Mechanic permit by the end of the probationary period.
  • Ability to pass a physical examination as prescribed by the City.
