Job Title: Part Time Counselor

Join our team at The Salvation Army USA Western Territory as a Part Time Counselor. As a key member of our Adult Rehabilitation Center team, you will provide expertise and guidance to our counseling staff, as well as counsel and teach beneficiaries of our program.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Part Time Counselor to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in substance abuse counseling and a passion for helping others overcome social and emotional challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist beneficiaries in understanding and overcoming social and emotional problems through individual and group counseling.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments with newly admitted beneficiaries.
  • Keep beneficiary files up-to-date with proper documentation of counseling and class activities.
  • Develop individual rehabilitation plans for beneficiaries seen in counseling.
  • Assist beneficiaries in preparation for 90-day and 5-month reviews.
  • Conduct Christian education classes as assigned.
  • Lead other groups or classes as assigned by the Rehabilitation Manager.
  • Teach classes in the program's educational component as assigned.
  • Attend weekly case conferences and provide input to discussion.
  • Handle counseling-related issues in the absence of the Rehabilitation Manager.
  • Provide and maintain counseling statistics for monthly program reports.
  • Document and maintain progress notes in beneficiary files.
  • Assess spiritual needs of beneficiaries and make referrals to the Chaplain as needed.
Requirements:
  • Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) certification or a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of work/volunteer experience in the substance abuse field.
  • Current CADC certification.
  • 1-year experience teaching or presenting material related to rehabilitation from addiction.
  • Valid driver's license and clean MVR.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to learn additional software as needed.
  • Age 21 or above.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to make critical decisions and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to track multiple tasks efficiently and complete each in a professional and timely manner.
  • Professional judgment and integrity in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Commitment to supporting and applying the philosophy and goals of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center Program.
  • Active Christian worldview.
  • If in recovery, 3 years of continuous sobriety.
  • No evidence of existing chemical dependency.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly on the telephone.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks.
