Job Summary

Martin Marietta is seeking a skilled Welder to join our team at our Salisbury, NC shop. As a Welder, you will be responsible for safely performing weld buildup and cutting operations on rock crusher machines and sub-assemblies as part of an overall remanufacture process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety First: Maintain a high level of safety and ensure that the team maintains a safety-first culture.
  • Welding Operations: Perform weld build up on crusher parts using manual, semi-automatic, and mechanized welding processes.
  • Welding Processes: Utilize welding processes such as FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, and SAW.
  • Equipment Operation: Use positioners and manipulators to maneuver large workpieces to be welded.
  • Cutting Operations: Perform cutting operations using oxyacetylene, oxyfuel, exothermic, carbon air arc, plasma cutters, grinders, and a CNC burn table.
  • Crack Repair: Excavate cracks, use dye penetrant, bevel, and fill crack repair in steels.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Use hydraulic rams to push and pull pieces in and out of place.
  • Quality Control: Ensure completion of quality control documentation.
  • Equipment Preheating: Operate rosebuds, torches, and induction rope to preheat pieces to desired welding temperatures.
  • Equipment Loading and Unloading: Load, unload, and program a stress relief oven.
  • Dissimilar Metal Welding: Weld on cast iron, manganese, and Cu-AL dissimilar.
  • Tooling Operations: Use tooling such as an ironworker, horizontal and vertical bandsaws, magnetic drills, come-a-longs, chain-hoists, grinders, hammers, and wedges to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Equipment Training: Complete task training on all overhead cranes, forklifts, sweepers, manlift, scissor lifts, welders, and torches within 90 days of hire.
  • 5S Methodology: Use 5S methodology in conjunction with the floor sweeper to maintain a clean and safe workplace.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Extend total life expectancy of assets by learning PM procedures for all equipment utilized and remanufactured by the welding group.
  • Tool Reporting: Report damaged tools and tag out of service so that they can be replaced.
  • Equipment Checks: Develop operational equipment checks to catch failures before they arise.
Requirements
  • Education: HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Work Ethic: Must be a self-motivated, strong work ethic individual that is willing to work with minimal supervision and at a high level of accountability to operational requirements.
  • Mechanical Background: A strong mechanical background.
  • Measurement Skills: Ability to correctly measure parts with tape measures, pi tapes, and straight edges are necessary to perform the job functions.
  • Computer Skills: Basic computer skills with the ability to report and transfer information.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions, cold, and wind, sometimes rain, will be required.
  • Lifting: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. will be required.
