Position Overview:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will play a crucial role in our comprehensive health and wellness program, reporting directly to the Lead RN. This year-round position involves delivering high-quality, proactive nursing care, both direct and indirect, to our students.
The LPN will be instrumental in the daily operations of The Pines Health & Wellness program, offering guidance and mentorship to students, assisting in emergency situations, and collaborating with the entire Shrub Oak team.
Building trusting relationships with students, families, and community members is essential, as you will represent Shrub Oak International School with professionalism and respect.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to address the holistic health of students, integrating physical and emotional well-being.
- Monitor the health and wellness of residents at The Pines, both routinely and as needed, in partnership with RN staff.
- Provide crisis intervention and first aid for medical emergencies or student injuries, coordinating with Emergency Medical Services when necessary.
- Assist RN staff with medical case management, including:
- Engaging with families regarding medical needs and care.
- Coordinating with primary and specialist medical providers.
- Scheduling appointments for various medical needs.
- Monitoring students' vital signs and administering prescribed medications.
- Collaborating with nutritionists to address dietary requirements.
- Managing prescriptions and refills with medical providers and pharmacies.
- Work within an interdisciplinary team, including psychiatric, clinical, educational, and direct-care professionals.
The LPN will also provide health education and support students in developing healthy lifestyle habits. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Current NYS Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in good standing.
- At least 2 years of experience as an LPN, preferably with children and adolescents.
- Experience in educational or psychiatric settings is advantageous.
- Familiarity with working with youth on the autism spectrum or with psychiatric conditions is preferred.

- Exceptional communication and active listening skills to effectively meet student needs and interact with various stakeholders.
- Strong analytical abilities to assess complex situations and make informed decisions.
- Capacity to collaborate in a dynamic environment, demonstrating cultural competency and collegiality.
- Ability to multitask and make sound decisions under pressure.
Work Environment:
The role is primarily based in a school/residential setting, requiring physical activity, including walking and standing. Daily tasks may involve extensive computer and phone use, navigating stairs, and occasionally lifting items up to 25 pounds.
