Job Description:

**Job Summary:**

The Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to fill the position of Disease Intervention Specialist. This role is responsible for providing professional and technical services related to the treatment, control, and prevention of HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain working relationships with public and private partners in health to ensure a clear plan to address community needs on HIV/STD counseling, testing, and partner elicitation.
  • Conduct and facilitate provider trainings on HIV/STD incidence and prevention activities.
  • Work closely with program staff to market the program to community and professional groups, to encourage and/or improve interest in the program.
  • Perform detection, intervention, reporting, surveillance, notification, and referral activities related to persons with HIV/STD infections and their contacts.
  • Referral to pre-exposure prophylaxis for all contacts with nonreactive HIV test results.
  • Perform field venipuncture, urine collection, and conduct rapid HIV and Syphilis testing, according to Standing Delegation Orders (SDO).
  • Ensure statutory disease reporting, achievement of program performance standards, and abide by the DSHS DIS guidelines, DSHS HIV/STD Surveillance guidelines, and HHS HR manual.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of all concepts of public health practices.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under time constraints with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Travel.
  • Ability to work in less favorable weather and geographical areas.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of HIV, AIDS, and STDs, including symptomatology, diagnostic techniques, recommended treatment, epidemiology, and control strategies.
  • Standard software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation, email, and Internet.

Working Conditions:

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of public health practices, HIV/STD prevention, and control strategies. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential. The candidate must be able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
