Job Description

Job Summary

The Project Design Engineer will lead and support the development and implementation of combustor system upgrades. This position works with internal and external teams to drive engineering and technical project management activities related to gas turbine combustion modifications and upgrades.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead combustion system development projects, interfacing with other teams in the organization.
  • Generate schedules, identify critical path activities, and align resources to ensure on-time delivery of designs, manufactured parts, procurement of components, and on-site execution.
  • Setup and coordinate design and risk reviews per engineering design procedures, highlighting top project risks, and assisting in the development of mitigation strategies.
  • Support sales and tendering with project cost estimates and provide direction for site walkdown support during the bid phase.
  • Report project status and milestones to upper management.
  • Refine existing engineering procedures or develop new ones for continuous efficiency and quality improvement as well as lower execution cost.
  • Design Industrial Gas Turbine Engine components and systems to meet fit, form, and functional requirements and design criteria.
  • Support the continued development and oversee the adherence to PSM design systems, including job folders and documentation, technical reviews, drawings, and engineering changes.
  • Utilize appropriate design/analysis tools, such as Creo, ANSYS, Microsoft Excel, or similar.
  • Assess needs and identify critical path schedules for design, manufacturing, and procurement activities.
  • Create, lead, and/or deliver presentations to internal and external clients.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
  • Must complete EHS assigned regulatory training for work area as described by PSM's EHS Training Matrix.

Skills/Experience:

  • 10+ years of applicable experience in the GT industry, with 5+ years of experience related to Gas Turbine product development.
  • Strong analytical decision-making and organizational skills are required.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software – Creo, NX, Solidworks.
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes, general machining, and fabrication techniques.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Strong skills with MS Office programs. Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to perform hands-on fieldwork is strongly desired.
  • Field work and travel may be required (up to 20%).
  • Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills, including ability to motivate and influence others.
