Overview

The Director of Patient Safety and Risk Management plays a pivotal role in enhancing the safety protocols within the healthcare environment. This position is responsible for the development and execution of innovative strategies aimed at minimizing risks and ensuring the well-being of patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Formulate and execute effective strategies in patient safety and risk management, promoting a proactive culture that prioritizes the prevention of patient harm.
  • Oversee the thorough investigation of incidents and errors, implementing resolutions for all safety-related occurrences.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of patient safety incidents, analyzing data to uncover root causes and areas for improvement.
  • Gather and assess information from safety programs to identify necessary corrective actions and enhancements.
  • Advise on policy changes and initiatives that could mitigate future risks.
  • Design and deliver training sessions to elevate awareness of patient safety practices among staff.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant state and federal regulations regarding patient safety.
  • Supervise and guide subordinate staff in their daily responsibilities, ensuring alignment with departmental goals.
  • Monitor project milestones and budget compliance to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Facilitate the implementation of safety protocols through effective policies and procedures, acting as a key resource for program sites.
  • Review occurrence reports to identify clinical risk trends and areas requiring intervention.
  • Conduct various analyses, including root cause and incident analyses, to enhance safety measures.
  • Assist in regulatory surveys and planning as required.
  • Collaborate with Directors to investigate and follow up on significant events.
  • Analyze occurrence data to identify frequency and severity trends.
  • Work with executive leadership to address identified safety issues through strategic planning.
  • Initiate Probable Claims Reports (PCR) when necessary.
  • Utilize strong coaching and conflict resolution skills to foster a safe environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Clinical experience is essential; a Bachelor's Degree is required, while a Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Preferred certifications include CPPS, CPHQ, or CPHRM.
  • Proven experience in relationship management is necessary.
  • Ability to work autonomously while maintaining accountability for outcomes.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities within the scope of responsibilities.
  • Must maintain consistent attendance and adhere to scheduled work hours.
Experience:

A minimum of two to five years of experience in acute care settings or integrated healthcare systems is required, along with extensive knowledge of hospital operations and patient safety practices.
