Pediatric Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at Children's Home Society of Florida. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to our youth, including documenting and verifying healthcare status, developing comprehensive care plans, managing medication distribution, and providing emergency care.
Key Responsibilities- Review health admission forms, conduct nursing assessments, verify and manage medications, develop care plans, provide emergency care and health education, oversee and train non-licensed staff on medication distribution, and maintain comprehensive client records while adhering to HIPAA.
- Conduct nursing assessments as indicated by intake documentation; consists of collecting and documenting current health status, medical history and behavioral health services.
- Verify youths' medications brought to the CHS site. This shall include communication with the youths' community pharmacy, medical provider and parent/guardian.
- Develop individual plans of care to include all known medical and dental appointments, physical and mental health, current medications, names of youths' community practitioners, as well as nutrition and educational needs.
- Provide episodic and emergency care while on site. Youth that require care beyond First Aid for minor injuries or illness must be referred to the Emergency Room or call for EMS/911 assistance.
- Providing health education to families on specific medications and chronic and acute health conditions to youths. Subject matter includes wellness, fitness, nutrition, positive coping skills and Universal Precautions/Infection Control.
- Oversee and manage medication distribution, secure storage and accountability of medications when on site.
- Ensure that non-licensed staff are trained and know how to assist youth with self-administration of medications during hours when no licensed nurse is on-site.
- Monitoring Medication Distribution Logs (MDL) and storage system (including medication inventory counts) daily to ensure that medications provided to youth for self-administration are provided as prescribed.
- Monitoring medication side effects when administering medications. Review documented side effects monitored by non-licensed staff and provide additional training as needed.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis of medication errors, including omission. of and evaluate all medical Central Communications Center (CCC) incidents. Make recommendations about corrective action to address deficiencies and issues in response to these incidents.
- Assist the Program Director and staff in the Quality Improvement Process, including guidance on health care standards.
- Consult with the program staff and recommend improvements for nutrition, sanitation, health monitoring and child development activities.
- Provide telephone triage to program staff for minor child medical incidents and traumatic issues.
- Document all youth interactions and ongoing assessment of client status, which reflects nursing interventions, client response to care provided, client needs, problems, limitations and progress toward goals.
- Associate degree in Nursing, required.
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida, required.
- Florida Driver's License within 30 days from hire with daily access to a reliable and insured vehicle, required.
- Minimum of four years of experience as a registered nurse in direct patient care, required.
- Four years of experience in pediatric or emergency patient care, preferred.
- Knowledge of CLINICAL ASSESSMENT AND CARE PLANNING, MEDICATION MANAGEMENT, EMERGENCY AND EPISODIC CARE, HEALTH EDUCATION AND TRAINING, DEVELOPMENTAL & PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF CHILD HEALTH, COMMUNITY RESOURCES.
- Skills & proficiency in Planning, organization and time management, oral and written communication, Interpersonal relationship building, collaboration, teamwork, Computer systems and MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to Perform at a high level of autonomy, with general supervision. Perform under strong demands in fast-paced, diverse, sometimes ambiguous environments. Handle stressful, sensitive situations; preserve confidentiality and professional boundaries. Meet critical deadlines, while maintaining attention to detail, accuracy and quality. Solve practical problems and document results using sound judgment. Commit to providing high customer satisfaction with positive service delivery results.
