Position Title: Prep Cook

Overview:

The Prep Cook plays a vital role in ensuring that food preparation aligns with the high standards of our community. This position is tasked with preparing a variety of dishes to meet quality, quantity, and timing requirements. The Prep Cook collaborates closely with the culinary team to guarantee that meals are nutritious, flavorful, and tailored to the dietary needs of residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the chef in daily kitchen operations.
  • Assist in the preparation of meals and service setup.
  • Ensure cleanliness by washing dishes during meal service.
  • Help prepare and stock room service carts and deliver trays as required.
  • Maintain and replenish the beverage station in the dining area.
  • Assist in resetting and cleaning the dining room as necessary.
  • Prepare salads, soups, and desserts as part of meal offerings.
  • Uphold standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and health regulations.
  • Follow safety protocols and loss prevention measures.
  • Participate in mandatory training and safety meetings.
  • Adhere to all food handling policies set by local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assist with necessary documentation, including temperature logs and cleaning schedules.
  • Promote the core values and mission of Avanti Senior Living.

Dining Duties:

  • Deliver and retrieve meal trays for residents as needed.
  • Serve meals in the dining room or suites, ensuring adherence to pre-planned menus.
  • Encourage residents to maintain a balanced diet and report any changes in eating habits to supervisors.

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all health and safety regulations.
  • Perform duties in accordance with company policies and state licensing requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding resident and employee information.
  • Be knowledgeable about safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Assist in the administration of treatments and medications as per physician orders, if certified.
  • Report any safety hazards observed in the community to the Wellness Director.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend all required meetings and training sessions.
  • Remain on duty until a replacement arrives to ensure continuity of care.
  • Adhere to company policies regarding attendance and punctuality.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to move about the facility to perform tasks.
  • Stand for extended periods and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Meet health requirements set by the community, including passing necessary tests.
  • Assist in the evacuation of residents during emergencies.
  • Respond to alarms and emergency signals promptly.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience in a cooking role.
  • Food Handlers license or willingness to obtain one shortly after hire.
  • Ability to prepare therapeutic diets as needed.
  • Flexibility to work on holidays and special events.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Compassion for and a desire to work with the elderly population.

Work Environment:

This position primarily involves working indoors in a climate-controlled kitchen environment, with potential exposure to various odors and chemicals. Candidates should be prepared to handle stressful situations with professionalism and maintain a high level of customer service.
