Job Overview

The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for formulating, implementing, and upholding quality assurance protocols and benchmarks for manufacturing within the organization. This role involves overseeing the quality control division, directing research and development initiatives to support business operations, proposed projects, and quality specifications. The QA Manager will utilize established analytical and problem-solving techniques to enhance manufacturing processes through thorough analysis, aiming to optimize fabrication and welding practices.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Directs the formulation, implementation, and adherence to quality assurance protocols and testing benchmarks for new applications, current operations, and enhancements to existing applications throughout the bidding, detailing, and manufacturing/coating processes.
  • Ensures compliance of quality measures with regulatory standards, industry benchmarks, project specifications, and recognized best practices.
  • Evaluates new projects prior to execution for effective and efficient manufacturing and welding processes, ensuring that quality control is informed of all requirements and that all processes are prepared.
  • Engages in Project and Quality Control meetings.
  • Facilitates client inspections and third-party evaluations to ensure adherence to quality standards and timelines.
  • Leads and manages Quality Control Managers across all facilities to achieve quality objectives and production targets, as well as individual developmental needs.

OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT:
  • Develops and documents testing plans and audits for tracking defects and Non-Conformance Report issues (both internal and external) in product manufacturing and welding processes, ensuring compliance with internal QA manuals and client project requirements.
  • Implements and refines established metrics to assess the readiness, quality, and functionality of processes, equipment, and personnel, including tracking rework hours.
  • Creates and disseminates testing and audit plans, manuals, and guidelines that will define optimal QA performance according to specifications; revises as necessary, maintaining all documentation and enforcing document control.
  • Actively participates in mandatory Safety meetings.
QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER (continued)
  • Oversees and develops Quality Control inspectors (including paint inspectors at facilities with painting operations).
  • Plans and conducts performance evaluations of Quality Control inspectors; coordinates and administers training, promotions, and disciplinary actions when required.
  • Mentors and develops Quality Control inspectors.
  • Ensures:
    • Inspections are scheduled and conducted promptly in accordance with applicable codes and customer contract requirements.
    • Tools and equipment are properly calibrated, documented, controlled, and maintained.
    • Staff maintains accurate documentation of materials and processes.
    • Develops and qualifies welding procedures and Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs).
    • Supervises welder qualification testing and ensures maintenance of continuity logs.
    • Coordinates in-house inspectors and external testing services.
    • Trains Quality Control and production personnel on quality-related subjects.
    • Acts as the primary contact at the plant level for external quality auditors and inspectors.
    • Assigns and audits Lead Quality Control Inspector for fracture-critical work and other essential projects.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a significant manufacturing industry.
  • At least 2 years of inspection experience in a major steel manufacturing or erection company.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
  • Coordinates daily with Executive Vice President, Corporate Superintendent, Shop Superintendents, Operations Managers, Quality Control, and Project Managers to support their functions.
  • Reports to Chief Operating Officer and/or General Manager.
