GENERAL OVERVIEW

As a Facilities Maintenance Specialist, you will engage in advanced building upkeep and construction activities. You will be the primary steward of state facilities, ensuring their maintenance and operational integrity. Your responsibilities will encompass facilities upkeep, construction tasks, seasonal grounds care, and custodial duties. You will assist in the repair and maintenance of buildings, utility systems, and stationary equipment, operate various motorized tools, and manage custodial equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on buildings and stationary equipment, including carpentry, plumbing, mechanical work, masonry, painting, and maintenance of parking lots and sidewalks.
  2. Assist with plumbing, electrical, or HVAC tasks as needed.
  3. Perform inspections and minor repairs on tools, equipment, and facilities to ensure safety and efficiency.
  4. Install and maintain sprinkler systems, and assist with irrigation scheduling.
  5. Handle the application of pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides as required.
  6. Execute general cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and window cleaning.
  7. Disinfect and maintain cleanliness in restrooms, offices, and other facilities, utilizing appropriate cleaning agents.
  8. Assist in moving furniture and equipment as necessary.
  9. Document work activities, including time spent, materials used, and descriptions of completed tasks.
  10. Act as a liaison between contractors and assigned contract monitors.
  11. Interpret basic drawings and blueprints to complete assigned tasks.
  12. Manage inventory of supplies, including ordering and receiving materials.
  13. Collaborate with other facility technicians as needed.
  14. Follow established procedures for completing work orders and report any facility issues to management.
  15. Maintain regular attendance and adhere to approved work hours.
  16. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience: At least one year of experience in building trades, with demonstrated skills in areas such as carpentry, plumbing, or painting.

Licensure: Valid driver’s license required; may need to obtain additional certifications.

Skills: Proficient in the use of hand and power tools for maintenance and repair tasks. Ability to learn and apply various processes and procedures effectively.

Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and clients.

Organizational Skills: Must be able to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment while maintaining safety and professionalism.

Physical Demands: Ability to work in various environments, including outdoor settings with fluctuating temperatures and conditions. Must be able to lift weights up to 50 pounds and operate motorized equipment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position may require after-hours work and response to maintenance emergencies. Travel to various locations may also be necessary.
