Patient Care Associate, Correctional Health Services Day Tour

NYC Health + Hospitals is a leading public healthcare system in the nation, providing essential services to 1.4 million New Yorkers every year. We are seeking a Patient Care Associate to join our team in the Correctional Health Services department.
Job Summary:The Patient Care Associate will work under the direction of a licensed nurse or other medical staff to provide patients with care and support. This includes performing venipuncture, finger-sticks, HIV Pre and Post Test Counseling, responding and assisting with emergencies, and various clerical and health-related duties associated with patient care.
Responsibilities:- Administer total care (bed bath, partial or complete)
- Assist with patient's personal hygiene - including skin care, mouth care, shaving, etc.
- Transfers patients - in and out of bed, stretcher, and wheelchair.
- Positions patients and carry out a range of motion exercise
- Prepares patients for meals and assists with feeding as needed
- Assists with unit admission and transfer of patient
- Takes and documents in the electronic medical record all patient's vital signs - B/P, TPR, weights, intake, and output
- Perform EKGs as required and follow outlined procedures for submitting abnormal EKGs
- Perform dry sterile dressing changes and assists with other patient treatment
- Administers hot and cold applications to patients, under supervision
- Perform blood draws and urine testing
- Chaperon staff in all clinical areas when requested
- High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization
- Successful completion of a NYS Department of Health prescribed training program for Phlebotomy, satisfactory to the Laboratory Director
- Completion of a health care setting-based training program in the performance of electrocardiographs and basic life support procedures including certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation
