Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Forestry Maintenance Worker to join our team at the City of Muskogee. This role involves participating in the transplanting, removal, and maintenance of trees and other vegetation on City property and right-of-way.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate various types of machinery, including stump removers, brush chippers, tree spades, chain saws, and aerial lift vehicles.
  • Participate in transplanting, removing, and maintaining trees and other horticulture on City property.
  • Assist in maintaining a comprehensive program of ongoing tree maintenance, including fertilizing, chemical treatment, watering, transplanting, diagnosing, and removing.
  • Participate in organizing annual ceremonies and events.
  • Perform other tasks peculiar to the department as assigned.
  • Report to work on a regular and timely basis.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, and two (2) years of experience as a trades helper or maintenance laborer in any of the construction and maintenance trades, preferably including some work experience involving horticulture and the operation of light to medium construction equipment.
  • General knowledge of manual labor work practices, methods, tools, and materials of varied semiskilled maintenance and horticulture work in forestry management, including the use of fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and understanding of soil types.
  • Good knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work and the safe and efficient operation of equipment; and safe work practices.
  • Ability to utilize and instruct others in the operation of common forestry equipment, including stump removers, brush chippers, tree spades, chain saws, and aerial lift vehicles.
  • Necessary skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and fellow employees.
Working Environment

Work in this classification is primarily outdoors. Will travel to other City locations. Exposure to wet, hot, cold, and/or humid conditions.

This classification is a "safety sensitive" position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations, the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act, and/or the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana laws. As a "safety sensitive" classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.
