Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Certified Medical Assistant to join our team at Healogics. As a key member of our clinical staff, you will play a vital role in providing and coordinating clinical and non-clinical services under the direction of our Registered Nurses (RNs) or Providers. This position requires a strong foundation in medical assisting, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-certification duties, including receiving referrals, verifying patient coverage, and communicating with primary care providers and insurance companies as needed.
  • Assist RNs or LPNs/LVNs during patient intake and discharge processes, collecting and recording vital signs, wound measurements, and other relevant data.
  • Track patient visit information, including entering documentation in database systems and maintaining accurate records.
  • Perform recertification and extension of services, including sending clinical information and photographs to insurance companies and documenting authorization information.
  • Assist with Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy-related duties, as needed, after completing required training.
  • Complete unit tasks, such as cleaning exam areas, processing sterile instruments, and performing other duties as required.
  • Provide clerical support, including answering phones, greeting patients, and coordinating patient ancillary testing.
  • Communicate with payors and update documentation as needed.
  • Relate customer concerns and needs to medical personnel and track them in appropriate databases.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Clinical Duties

  • Information gathering for intake and discharge
  • Explaining treatment procedures to patients
  • Preparing patients for examination
  • Assisting Providers or RNs during exams
  • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
  • Performing basic laboratory tests
  • Removing and changing dressings

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
  • Graduate from a Medical Assistant program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification
  • Six (6) or more months of related experience in an acute hospital, rehabilitation hospital, or skilled nursing unit

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated competency in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Strong interpersonal, listening, and oral communication skills
  • Customer service skills and follow-up skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with others and in a team environment
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
