Position Overview

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in Michigan. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is required for this role.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a hospital or acute care environment is essential.
  • Proven skills in administration and supervision are necessary.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and educational levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills aligned with Relationship Based Care (RBC) principles and the values of Munson Medical Center.
  • Thorough understanding of nursing theory and practice, including the nursing process.
  • Additional training in management and educational methodologies is preferred.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

  • Reports directly to the Admission Manager, with additional guidance from the Vice President of Patient Care Services and other Directors and Managers.
  • Collaborates with nursing and non-nursing management across the organization.
  • Adheres to established nursing, medical, and hospital policies and standards.
  • Provides leadership, oversight, and guidance to nursing staff during assigned shifts.

PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Uphold the mission of Munson Healthcare by ensuring high-quality patient care.
  • Munson Nursing Commitment: Work collaboratively to deliver exceptional care and enhance community health.
  • PRACTICE STANDARDS:
    • Conduct assessments and monitor staffing levels across all inpatient units each shift.
    • Identify and address potential issues in the physical and emotional environment of the unit.
    • Facilitate interdisciplinary teamwork in data evaluation and decision-making.
    • Direct and evaluate processes that foster Relationship Based Care and culturally sensitive patient outcomes.
    • Utilize the PCSS database to maintain appropriate staffing ratios.
    • Integrate clinical, human resource, and financial data to inform decision-making.
  • PLANNING:
    • Support unit-based nursing service plans and patient care initiatives.
    • Develop and review annual goals and objectives in alignment with administrative priorities.
    • Assess the need for immediate intervention in family crises and coordinate with Medical Social Work as needed.
  • IMPLEMENTATION:
    • Encourage staff involvement in decision-making regarding patient care resources.
    • Ensure proper procedures are followed for the deceased and notify the Medical Examiner as required.
    • Assist in scheduling surgical and outpatient procedures.
    • Support patient placement and transfer processes.
    • Coordinate cleaning of patient rooms post-discharge.
    • Facilitate processes related to work injuries and drug testing.
  • EVALUATION:
    • Continuously assess shift operations for potential issues in the care environment.

    • Consult with the On-call Administrator as necessary and communicate relevant information to management.
    • Provide leadership in interpreting and enforcing operational policies and professional standards.
    • Act as a role model and consultant in healthcare matters.
    • Support the development of staff in clinical skills, problem-solving, and decision-making.
