Position Overview

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in Michigan. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is required for this role.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a hospital environment is necessary.
  • Proven leadership and management skills are essential.
  • Ability to effectively guide and collaborate with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills aligned with the principles of Relationship Based Care (RBC) and the core values of Munson Medical Center.
  • Thorough understanding of nursing theories and practices, including the nursing process.
  • Additional training in management and educational methodologies is preferred.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

  • Reports directly to the Admission Manager, with guidance from the Vice President of Patient Care Services and various Directors and Managers within Patient Care Services.
  • Collaborates with nursing and non-nursing management across the organization.
  • Adheres to established nursing, medical, and hospital policies and standards.
  • Provides oversight, direction, and support for nursing staff during assigned shifts.

PATIENT POPULATION

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • STANDARDS OF PRACTICE
    • Conduct assessments and monitor staffing levels across all inpatient units each shift.
    • Identify and address potential issues in the work environment.
    • Facilitate interdisciplinary teamwork in data analysis and decision-making.
    • Direct processes that foster Relationship Based Care and culturally sensitive patient outcomes.
    • Utilize staffing databases to maintain appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios.
    • Integrate clinical, human resource, and financial data to enhance decision-making.
  • PLANNING
    • Support unit-based nursing service plans and patient care initiatives.
    • Set and review annual goals in alignment with administrative objectives.
    • Assess needs for immediate intervention in crisis situations.
  • IMPLEMENTATION
    • Encourage staff involvement in resource allocation for patient care.
    • Ensure proper procedures are followed in case of patient death.
    • Assist in scheduling surgical and outpatient procedures.
    • Coordinate with Environmental Services for timely room cleaning.
  • EVALUATION
    • Review shift operations for potential issues in the care environment.
