Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting computational research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) to simulate the mechanical behavior of composite structures from manufacturing to in-service performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Formulate multiscale models for fiber-reinforced composites accounting for manufacturing processes.
  • Design, develop, and validate computational tools to optimize material properties and device performance.
  • Manufacture and test composite materials using various techniques, including DMA, DSC, TMA, and mechanical testing.
  • Perform computational simulations, evaluate and analyze results, and derive an understanding of underlying phenomena.
  • Prepare status reports and deliverables in collaboration with the PI, on time and to the highest standard.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Engineering or a related field.
  • Expertise in computer programming, numerical methods for engineering, and Finite Element Method (FEM).
  • Deep understanding of solid mechanics and fracture mechanics.
  • Scientific and interpersonal communication skills, including individual and group meetings, presentations, written reports, and journal publications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with MATLAB, Fortran, Python, C++, Abaqus, and other FEM packages (COMSOL, ANSYS, NASTRAN, CUF).
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
