PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION(S):
The role involves supervising the activities of individual students or groups under the guidance of the assigned teacher within the classroom setting.
Responsibilities include assisting in the execution of the students' Individualized Education Program (IEP), implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), Medical Protocols, and Sensory Diets as outlined in the IEP.Engagement in school-wide vocational initiatives, including on-site and off-site work experiences as specified in the IEP, is also required. Interaction with students should be age-appropriate and aligned with their developmental stages. Ensuring adherence to safety protocols and preventing accidental injuries is crucial.
Utilizing effective behavior management strategies and techniques is essential. At the discretion of the supervising teacher, participation in parent meetings, Team Share Meetings, and Pre-IEP Meetings is expected, providing valuable feedback on student progress and observations.
Flexibility and enthusiasm in fulfilling assigned duties are important, along with the ability to assist with daily living activities such as feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene.
Maintaining accurate records, data collection, and behavioral logs within required timelines is necessary. Proficiency in technology for job-related tasks is also expected. Regular attendance according to the assigned schedule and compliance with agency policies is essential.
Participation in professional development activities, including in-service training and staff meetings, is encouraged. Collaboration with colleagues, supervisors, and community professionals is vital.
Additional responsibilities may include overseeing routine maintenance of agency vehicles and assisting the teacher in creating an organized and appealing classroom environment.
There may also be opportunities to plan and implement extracurricular activities for small groups of students under the teacher's direction.
Working effectively with agency volunteers to enhance their experience while meeting the needs of those served is a key aspect of this role.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
An Associate of Arts degree in a relevant field of study, or 45 related credits, or successful completion of the Para Pro Assessment.
EXPERIENCE:
Prior training or supervised experience in the care and instruction of children is required. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team is essential.
NOTE:
Additional related experience and/or education may be considered in lieu of the specified requirements at the discretion of the Personnel Officer.
