Commercial Underwriter II

The Commercial Underwriter II is a key member of the Hope Credit Union team, responsible for conducting thorough credit and financial analyses to evaluate the safety and soundness of new loan requests. This role requires a high level of expertise in credit risk assessment, financial analysis, and loan underwriting.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with loan officers and market leaders to discuss credit requests and develop strategies to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Conduct initial reviews of incoming loan packages to determine creditworthiness and compliance with Hope Credit Union's policies and NCUA regulations.
- Analyze applicants' business operations, historical cash flow, balance sheets, and financial conditions, as well as management structures, collateral, and projections.
- Calculate appropriate financial ratios using methods such as UCA, Net Operating Income, EBITDA, and Global Debt Service.
- Research and investigate industry and market data trends to inform credit decisions.
- Coordinate and incorporate third-party reports into credit analyses as necessary.
- Review and determine the viability of projections for credit analysis.
- Prepare credit memoranda for presentation to the Credit Committee, including final recommendations.
- Participate in periodic reviews of existing portfolio credits as needed.
- Assist in the preparation of loan extensions and modifications as necessary.
- Comply with provisions of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
- Comply with National Credit Union Administration's rules and regulations.
- Comply with Equal Credit Opportunity Act (Regulation B) provisions.
- Comply with Fair Credit Practice Rule provisions.
- Comply with Flood Disaster Protection Act provisions.
- Comply with National Flood Insurance Act provisions.
- Comply with Truth in Lending Act (Regulation Z) provisions.
- Commercial loan quality, including performance, minimal errors, and charge-offs.
- Commercial loan production, including the number and dollar amount of loans.
- Strong computer skills, particularly with financial spreadsheets and word processing.
- Ability to read and interpret documents and write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and interpret data.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to evaluate creditworthiness from multiple structured and unstructured variables.
- Ability to restructure loans as necessary.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting preferred.
- Two to five years of experience in commercial credit analysis and underwriting.
- Experience in development finance preferred.
- Demonstrated strength in credit analysis, financial analysis, and communication skills.
