Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at the Dayton Area School Consortium. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our school facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilities Maintenance: Perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks, including sweeping, mopping, buffing, and waxing floors, as well as cleaning rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and blinds.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate hand tools and power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, and power mowers.
  • Grounds Keeping: Clear snow from entrances and walks, and spread sand and ice melting chemicals as needed.
  • Supply Management: Receive deliveries and assist in unloading trucks and storing supplies, as well as delivering supplies and materials to classrooms, bathrooms, and other areas of the building.
  • Waste Management: Empties wastebaskets, picks up and removes trash, and assists in the recycling program.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance desirable.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Ohio Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation required.
  • Background Check: Satisfactory FBI/BCI Background Check required.
Working Conditions

The Custodian will work in a standard office and school building environment, with occasional travel between schools or between schools and central office. The position requires the ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow, and to perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor(s).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Communication: Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with principal and others.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance, or repair problems as needed.
  • Teamwork: Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts, and to perform work that requires standing, walking, and lifting.
