Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist I

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist I to join our team at Vidant Health. As a Medical Laboratory Scientist I, you will be responsible for performing clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. You will understand method principles, perform quality control & calibrations, perform preventive maintenance, and analyze results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department
  • Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity
  • Communicate test results in a timely manner and to enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment
  • Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity
  • Works alternate shifts as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or a biological, chemical, or physical science from an accredited institution
  • Bachelor's degree with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) in biology and chemistry, obtained within or in addition to the degree is also acceptable
  • For non-CLS/MT degrees, one year of experience in a clinical laboratory is required

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification as MLS, BB, C, H or MB by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency

Working Conditions:
  • 40 hours a week
  • 4 (10 hour) shifts: 1 pm - 11:30 pm
  • Required to work a rotational weekend schedule for every 3rd weekend
  • Required to work rotational holidays
