Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Asphalt Construction Worker to join our team at CRH. As a key member of our construction/paving crew, you will assist in the paving and construction of highways, private roadways, parking lots, and driveways using handheld tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with crew members to pave roadways according to plan specifications and perform tasks of other positions as instructed by the crew foreman to ensure daily schedules and estimates are met.
  • Assist the construction/paving crew with various duties such as shoveling, raking, flagging, and running a wheelbarrow.
  • Dig, spread, and level construction materials.
  • Lift, carry, and hold materials, tools, and supplies.
  • May assist in the placement, moving, and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices.
  • Properly follow all company policies and procedures for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
  • Attend work according to the company's attendance policy to ensure the crew can operate at normal efficiency levels.
  • Maintain a courteous and professional manner with coworkers, customers, and the public.
  • Be flexible with last-minute schedule changes, location changes, time of shift changes.
  • Work overtime as required. Out-of-town, county, or state work may be required.
  • Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Adhere to the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition as supplied by the company.
  • Be physically able to operate equipment under temperature extremes and for extended hours of time. Normal shifts are 8-12 hours.
  • Ride to and from job sites. If operating a company vehicle, meet the Driver Qualification Standard.
  • Use power and/or hand tools needed to complete jobs within specifications.
  • Follow Traffic Control Crew instructions and practice safety standards according to the company's Safety Policy requirements.
  • Withstand physical demands associated with heavy highway construction.
  • Adapt and work in extreme weather temperatures.
  • The following motions will be required: stretching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching, and squatting - these will occupy most of the workday.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. for repetitive lifting while using proper lifting techniques.
  • Be exposed to extremes of heat or cold weather.
