Radiologic Imaging Specialist

Job Summary: This position is responsible for operating X-ray equipment that assists physicians with diagnosing and/or treating disease and/or injury.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepares patients for radiologic procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Protects patients, self, and other staff from radiation hazards, adhering to strict safety protocols.
- Takes X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety, utilizing radiographic equipment for medical diagnosis and/or treatment.
- Positions patients and takes X-rays of specific body parts as requested by physicians, requiring attention to detail and precision.
- Completes daily logs and forwards them to radiologists for reading, maintaining accurate records and ensuring timely communication.
- Maintains required records, including patient records and daily log books, in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Performs quantity and quality control checks to ensure X-ray units meet regulatory requirements, adhering to laws, rules, and departmental policies.
- Complies with safety standards, cleaning, maintaining, and making minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including determining equipment repairs.
- Orders and maintains radiographic supplies, film, and equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and efficiency.
- Performs other duties as assigned, functioning as a medical assistant when required by assigned practice.
Requirements:
- Associate's degree in radiological technology from an accredited X-ray technician program.
- Current state X-Ray Technology certificate or license.
- One to three years of experience as an X-ray technician, preferably in a medical practice environment.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologist registration preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of X-ray procedures and protocols, including anatomy and physiology necessary for X-ray testing.
- Knowledge of radiology equipment, including safety hazards common to radiology.
- Skill in identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisors.
- Skill in following infection control and radiological safety procedures.
Abilities:
- Ability to lift and position patients for X-ray procedures, requiring physical stamina and endurance.
- Ability to notice detail in drawings and differences in shapes and shadings, ensuring accurate X-ray images.
- Ability to read and write instructions, comprehend simple instructions, and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
- Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group settings, requiring strong interpersonal skills.
Work Environment: Radiological unit, requiring the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with occasional stress when working with anxious patients.
Physical Requirements: Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform tasks associated with an X-Ray Technician, including standing for extended periods, bending, stooping, and lifting heavy equipment and patients.
