Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Radiation Therapist PRN to join our team at Intermountain Health. As a Radiation Therapist PRN, you will be responsible for administering ionizing radiation for therapeutic purposes in accordance with the prescription of the Radiation Oncologist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and implement prescription and treatment plans as directed by the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Accurately complete and chart all simulation and treatment summaries, and reports.
  • Deliver prescribed courses of radiation therapy according to department protocols.
  • Perform simulation procedures and prepare immobilization devices for various body parts.
  • Monitor patients' clinical progress according to established protocols.
  • Obtain accurate measurements, contours, and other information as needed for dosimetry purposes.
  • Fabricate treatment immobilization devices as needed.
  • Perform daily equipment warm-up and quality assurance procedures.
  • Evaluate and assess treatment machine operations.
  • Recognize machine malfunctions and report them to the physicist.
  • Adhere to strict radiation safety guidelines.
  • Perform procedures regarding quality assurance, emergency shutdown, and guidelines that pertain to the operation manuals for equipment.
  • Assist in clinical training and evaluation of student therapists if applicable.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with all members of the health care team, patients, and families.
  • Practice effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adhere to internal quality controls, organizational standards, and department policies and procedures.
  • Provide basic patient care during patient delivery.
  • Assist with patient education.
  • Observe and monitor day-to-day clinical progress of patients for signs of treatment symptoms, complications, or other medical problems.
  • Report such to attending physician or nurse as appropriate.
  • Provide accurate daily billing information for all treatment-related procedures to office staff.
  • Schedule and treat patients in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements
  • Radiology Tech License from the State of Utah.
  • Certification in Radiation Therapy from the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Radiation Therapy from an accredited institution.
Work Environment

This position requires ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy is required. Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items. Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.). May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
