Position Overview

A reputable non-profit organization is in search of an experienced Finance Director to oversee their financial operations. This pivotal role will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will lead a dedicated finance team.

This position is integral to the leadership framework and will be responsible for the comprehensive financial stewardship of the organization and its affiliates.

Primary Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Establish and enforce policies and procedures for all financial management activities, ensuring compliance with established accounting standards and regulations.
  • Provide management with insights on policy matters, compensation strategies, and operational costs.
  • Encourage a collaborative atmosphere within the finance department, fostering teamwork, professional growth, and a commitment to excellence. Offer strong leadership and mentorship to finance team members to ensure effective performance and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Act as a strategic partner to other departments by delivering financial insights and analyses that support informed decision-making and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the integrity of the financial database, ensuring that financial information is accurate, complete, and secure. Implement necessary improvements to boost efficiency and support decision-making processes.

Strategic Planning

  • Work in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer, senior leadership, and Board of Directors to formulate the annual budget for income and expenses. Deliver timely and comprehensive financial reporting along with recommendations to maintain the organization’s fiscal health.
  • Collaborate closely with leadership and managers to:
  • Analyze and interpret budgets across all funds.
  • Manage the preparation and review of financial reports on a monthly basis and as required.
  • Ensure robust internal control systems are established and maintained across all operations.
  • Guarantee that data collection yields insightful and actionable information.
  • Partner with the Human Resources department to develop and uphold policies related to youth employment, ensuring compliance with labor laws while maximizing opportunities for revenue generation and fostering a supportive environment for youth development.
  • Oversee the identification and evaluation of opportunities for enhancing financial operations, recordkeeping, reporting, cash flow management, and cost savings, while collaborating with external auditors for audit preparation and review.
  • Continuously assess and refine financial policies, procedures, and controls in response to organizational growth, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and regulatory requirements.

Resource Management

  • Lead the planning and development of operational and fund account budgets, monitoring expenditures against the budget.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations and accounting practices through the maintenance of financial records and recordkeeping systems.
  • Promote a productive and professional work environment within the finance and accounting departments.
  • Guide organizational planning and development in collaboration with the CEO and department heads.
  • Manage the annual audit process, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • Engage annually with external auditors and the Audit Committee to review audit findings and ensure timely completion of audits.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management within the non-profit sector.
  • Extensive knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, and principles of non-profit organizations.
  • Proven ability to organize, direct, and coordinate financial operations and personnel management.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities and develop solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to cultivate effective working relationships with staff, Board members, and community stakeholders.

Work Environment

This role is primarily office-based.

Compensation:

The annual salary for this position ranges from $110,000 to $140,000, with consideration given to relevant experience, skills, and education.
