The DispatchHealth Medical Technician II (DHMT-II) plays a crucial role in supporting patient care by assisting with physical examinations, conducting point-of-care testing, administering treatments, and gathering essential data. The DHMT II operates under the guidance of a virtual DispatchHealth Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) while providing care to patients in their residences. Success in this role hinges on strong organizational abilities and exceptional customer service skills. Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided for this rewarding opportunity to facilitate hospital-level healthcare in the comfort of patients' homes.

Position Details

  • Day shift from 8 am to 6 pm
  • Minimum of 13 shifts per month, including 4 weekend days

Responsibilities

  • Drive the DispatchHealth vehicle to meet patients at their location and manage supplies for daily operations
  • Properly don and doff personal protective equipment (PPE) while adhering to strict infection control protocols
  • Communicate with healthcare providers through messaging, video conferencing, and mobile devices.
  • Obtain vital signs and assist in collecting patient data
  • Conduct physical examinations using mobile devices and perform diagnostic tests and treatments as directed by the virtual provider, in accordance with state regulations. This may include blood draws, EKGs, splinting, basic wound care, and other necessary patient care activities.
  • Execute point-of-care lab testing as instructed by the virtual provider
  • Prepare discharge instructions in collaboration with the provider
  • Manage the use, care, and allocation of medical equipment
  • Restock and sanitize equipment at the end of each shift
  • Perform additional duties as required to ensure successful patient visits and maintain equipment and vehicles

Qualifications

  • EMT certification with NREMT or EMT-B (as per state requirements) in good standing, OR Paramedic OR Medical Assistant certification.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of patient-facing experience
  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree in a core science or laboratory science and at least 2 years of experience in chemistry and hematology, particularly with i-STAT device experience, are encouraged to apply.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Capability to navigate multiple flights of stairs while carrying equipment
  • Strong customer service, communication, and technological skills
  • Previous experience with comprehensive history gathering and documentation within electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Familiarity with basic procedural skills
  • Cultural competency to effectively interact with patients and families, fostering rapport and trust, and delivering professional clinical presentations/summaries
  • Ability to function autonomously and collaboratively within a team to deliver care with flexibility and open-mindedness
  • Commitment to continuous learning and strong critical thinking abilities
  • Willingness to work a varied schedule, including evenings, holidays, and weekends
