Job Title: EHS Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced EHS Specialist to join our team at Kia Georgia, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Assistant Manager of Safety in implementing safety and incident prevention measures to comply with corporate, local, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Assistant Manager in developing and implementing loss control and accident prevention countermeasures to comply with Kia Georgia's mission and objectives.
  • Develop and facilitate delivery of safety orientation to contractors, suppliers, vendors, and others as required to ensure understanding of Kia Georgia's policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement safety training programs, including but not limited to: Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Hazard Communication, Electrical Safety, Robotics, PPE, Fall Prevention, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection, Overhead Crane Safety, Rigging, and others.
  • Conduct equipment safety reviews, implement and perform acceptance inspection (Buy-Off) procedure.
  • Support the shop implementation of the Management of Change Process (MOC).
  • Conduct periodic inspections of plant machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure conformance to appropriate safety and health standards and regulations.
  • Investigate incidents and working conditions, compiling data, providing remedial actions; perform root cause analysis and make recommendations to achieve loss prevention.
  • Follow up and work with Shop Leadership to assure that countermeasures implemented and are sustained.
  • Assist Shop Leadership and Safety Committees with the evaluation of perceived safety issues, Team Member's safety suggestions and concerns. Work with AM to develop and implement corrective measures.
  • Implement the Kia Georgia construction safety programs for modifications and expansion projects and processes through coordination with Kia Georgia team members and their suppliers and contractors utilizing the Management of Change (MOC) process for all new equipment installations and existing equipment modifications from initial concept through buy-off and release for production.
  • Assist the Kia Georgia emergency response coordinator in emergency response operations and training drills during normal facility operation and on call 24-hour basis.
  • Initiate Emergency Action Plan, provide guidance and direction.
  • Ensure compliance by developing and conducting as directed appropriate safety and security training to maintain corporate, state, local, and federal regulations, directives, and policies.
  • Assist in the overseeing all plant programs and activities for compliance with all safety guidelines and regulations. Assist with Kia Georgia's ISO 45001 Program as needed. Ensure that all chemical requisitions are reviewed, approved, and entered in Sphera System.
  • Perform all duties of Safety Engineer/Specialist as assigned by departmental leadership. Must be able to work any shift in all shops.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Ergonomics, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field along with two (2) to four (4) years of progressive experience in the safety field in a manufacturing environment preferably within the automotive industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Safety committee activities, incident investigation/problem solving, tool and equipment specification, fire and security experience will also be considered.

Specialized Skills and Knowledge Required:

Proficiency in planning, organizing, and directing day-to-day production safety operations ensuring shop compliance with OSHA regulations, standards, and corporate directives.

Blueprint reading, basic chemistry, advanced first aid/CPR.

Experience using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access. Experience with SAP system preferred.

Successful implementation of an safety program at any manufacturer or component manufacturer is preferred. Other successful safety program experience will be considered.
