About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Actuary to join our team at Ascensus. As a Senior Actuary, you will play a critical role in the valuation, administration, and compliance of Defined Benefit plans.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Plan Valuation and Administration

Responsible for protecting, securing, and proper handling of all confidential data held by Ascensus to ensure against unauthorized access, improper transmission, and/or unapproved disclosure of information that could result in harm to Ascensus or our clients.

Client Service and Support

Provide superior client service, including presenting at client meetings, coordinating special projects, and solving problems with creative solutions.

Communication and Collaboration

Provide effective and timely verbal and written communications in a concise and informative manner.

Team Leadership and Development

Guide and mentor actuarial analysts.

Regulatory Compliance

Review and certify funding and accounting valuations.

Benefit Calculations and Projections

Review benefit calculations and projected benefit estimates.

Project Management

Supervise and review client projects such as plan design analyses, experience studies, asset-liability modeling, plan termination and de-risking consulting, QDROs, etc.

Industry Knowledge and Expertise

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of present legislation and proposed legislative changes regarding ERISA and local governmental plan law through self-study and company-sponsored training sessions, and use this knowledge to update clients with respect to implications and/or opportunities that legal or regulatory changes will have on their retirement plans.

Client Onboarding and Transition

Coordinate with all applicable parties, both internal and external, to ensure a smooth transition process for new clients.

Additional Responsibilities

Assist with other tasks and projects as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications

  1. Education

Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, math, or a math-related field.

Experience

Minimum five years' experience in the pension industry.

Professional Designations

Enrolled Actuary designation; Fellow of the Society of Actuaries is a plus.

Skills and Knowledge

Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Technical Proficiency

Demonstrated technical proficiency and interest in learning.

Attention to Detail and Time Management

Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize, manage tasks, and meet deadlines in connection with business operations, including related plan compliance matters.

Leadership and Client Relationship Skills

Ability to effectively plan and assign work.
