POSITION OVERVIEW: This position is a key contributor within the engineering management team, comprising 5-7 leaders reporting directly to the Engineering Director. SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees the daily operations of engineers and/or technicians as assigned.
- Assists in the recruitment and training of new personnel.
- Conducts timely and constructive performance assessments.
- Manages disciplinary actions and terminations in collaboration with Human Resources, as necessary and in accordance with company policies.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in sheet metal design, preferably in material handling or conveyance.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
- Hands-on approach with a proactive attitude towards problem-solving in diverse environments.
- Strong foundation in manufacturing and engineering principles.
- Proficiency in CAD is essential, with significant experience in SolidWorks preferred.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (preferably SyteLine) and PLM or PDM systems.
- Basic understanding of electrical controls, operations, and circuit design.
- Over 10 years of experience in tolerancing, GD&T, and machine design.
- Knowledge of power transmission systems, including drives, pulleys, belts, motor specifications, and gearboxes.
- Experience with conveyors and material handling systems is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Ability to maintain positive and professional relationships with all organizational levels.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing.
- At least 10 years of experience in a relevant engineering field, with 5-10 years in a leadership capacity.
- Expertise in modern manufacturing techniques and processes.
- Proficiency in Lean problem-solving methodologies; mastery of these skills is preferred.
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:
Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics and customer specifications. Capable of composing routine reports and correspondence. Effective communication skills with internal and external customers.
MATHEMATICAL ABILITIES:
Strong mathematical skills are essential. The individual must be capable of performing engineering calculations using algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as required.
COMPUTER PROFICIENCIES:
- Proficient in 3D CAD software, including SolidWorks or 3D Inventor.
- Proficient in 2D AutoCAD.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This role requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting. The employee will spend significant time on the shop floor and may need to lift up to 50 lbs. Additionally, the position involves extended periods in front of a computer.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Typically involves minimal travel, around 15% or less.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee will work in an office setting with regular interaction with shop floor personnel. Workdays may vary between the two environments based on project demands. Occasional travel may be required to customer facilities or suppliers, exposing the employee to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is variable but generally does not necessitate hearing protection.
