Job Description

The Custodian I will perform routine custodial duties at District facilities, including cleaning, maintenance, and repairs. The ideal candidate will have prior custodial experience and possess a good knowledge of work hazards and safety procedures.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Performing routine custodial duties, including cleaning and maintaining facilities
  • Conferring with principals or supervisors regarding care and cleaning at school sites
  • Informing Head Custodian and/or principals of needed repairs
  • Maintaining a sufficient quantity of janitorial materials
  • Making minor repairs to school equipment and buildings
  • Checking heating systems to ensure adequate heating throughout the plant and changing heating and cooling filters as directed
  • Inspecting buildings and grounds for waste, vandalism, and hazardous conditions
  • Resetting clocks and hoisting flags
  • Receiving and delivering supplies
  • Rearranging equipment and furniture among school buildings
  • Operating powered vehicles
  • Performing seasonal grounds duties

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Reading and writing skills sufficient to perform duties and read and understand MSDS sheets
  • Prior custodial experience preferred
  • General knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in custodial care and routine facilities maintenance
  • Good knowledge of work hazards and safety procedures
  • Ability to perform all essential duties of the position with limited supervision
  • Ability to maintain tools and equipment in a working condition
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions

The ideal candidate will have a valid California Driver's License and be able to lift light to medium weight materials or equipment up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis, over 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
