Legal Director of Employment and Product Compliance

We're seeking an experienced Legal Director of Employment and Product Compliance to join our legal team at Harness. As a key member of the team, you will collaborate closely with colleagues across various internal functional groups on a wide range of matters, including employment, litigation, privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and general compliance issues. This role reports directly to the General Counsel.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic legal counsel and guidance to the organization on various matters, balancing business objectives with relevant legal compliance requirements and risks.
- Counsel relevant teams and executives on domestic and foreign employment law issues, including recruitment and hiring, employee relations, performance management, internal investigations, leaves of absence, compensation and benefits, restrictive covenants, wage-and-hour compliance, employee privacy, and immigration.
- Assist in creating and implementing compliance policies and programs, including data retention and legal hold policies.
- Identify evolving employee relations challenges and provide risk mitigation solutions.
- Draft, review, and revise legal templates, such as employment handbooks, offer letters, employment and consulting agreements, and other compensation and benefits-related plans and documentation.
- Manage employment litigation, including resolving demand letters and pre-litigation disputes, supervising discovery, and managing outside counsel and internal teams.
- Advise company leadership on legal issues involving Harness' product offerings, design and implement compliance programs, and provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies across multiple jurisdictions.
- Enhance cybersecurity and privacy compliance programs through collaboration with internal stakeholders and provide guidance on contractual risks.
- Develop and maintain internal processes, resources, and tools to help scale the legal function.
- Create and deliver training to educate employees on employment and product compliance-related matters and enhance Harness' culture of compliance.
- JD degree (or equivalent) and admitted to practice law.
- 7+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally gained at an international law firm and in-house.
- Demonstrable history of providing practical guidance to solve complex, time-sensitive problems in close partnership with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent technical legal skills coupled with a strong understanding of business needs.
- Able to triage a heavy workflow, setting appropriate expectations with internal clients and delivering results efficiently and effectively.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills, and ability to manage several simultaneous projects under deadline pressure.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $210,000 - $235,000 annually. Salary is determined by a combination of factors including location, level, relevant experience, and skills. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.
