Overview

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) plays a pivotal role in delivering personalized patient care by enhancing and restoring health through the nursing process. The CNS will engage effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members while adhering to the standards expected of a licensed nursing professional.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established healthcare policies and protocols.
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments to evaluate the holistic needs of patients, prioritizing data collection based on immediate health conditions within the first 24 hours of admission.
  • Continuously monitors patient status and modifies care plans based on evolving patient conditions.
  • Creates individualized care plans that reflect collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
  • Documents patient care thoroughly, including nursing interventions, patient responses, needs, challenges, capabilities, limitations, and progress towards established goals in a timely manner.
  • Administers treatments as prescribed by physicians accurately and promptly.
  • Ensures proper storage of supplies, medications, and equipment.
  • Responds to patient call lights within the designated timeframe.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Administers medications and treatments in accordance with nursing policies and procedures.
  • Provides orientation and training to new staff members regularly.
  • Participates in Interdisciplinary Team Meetings as required.
  • Reports on patient conditions to relevant personnel during each shift.
  • Maintains required licenses, certifications, and mandatory skill updates.
  • Complies with all relevant policies, laws, and regulations.
  • May be assigned to different units as necessary to meet patient care needs.
  • Contributes to the overall duties of the healthcare team.

Supervisory Duties

  • May assume the role of interim department leader as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds and pushing/pulling over 250 pounds, walking, climbing stairs or ladders, and standing for extended periods.
