Project Engineer

The purpose of this position is to contribute to the design, development, and manufacturing of world-class rail products and services vital to our customers' needs through the application of specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Key Responsibilities- Work in a team environment as part of Progress Rail's Traction Systems Design Group;
- Conduct diagnostic investigations, analyze data, implement, and verify fixes for resolution of field problems;
- Responsible for creating and interpreting design, performance specifications, and providing compliant designs;
- Provide shop support and production problem resolution in areas of responsibility;
- Testing and validation of new designs and equipment;
- Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products;
- Provides technical direction to support personnel;
- Support Supply Chain in qualification of new suppliers;
- Travel as necessary, and flexibility to work on special assignments as required.
- Minimum of 5 years practical work experience in Mechanical Engineering or related field;
- Knowledge of computer engineering software;
- Excellent analytical abilities where problems are very complex;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Understanding of mechanical aspects of machine design;
- Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes;
- Ability to work independently and with others.
- Previous locomotive familiarity and design experience with electrical rotating components;
- Previous experience with locomotive alternator and traction motor mechanical design;
- Familiarity or experience with PR manufacturing practices;
- FEA experience.
Position is typically located in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment which may include a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as exposure to noise (85+ decibels), occasional exposure to temperature changes, heavy machinery, and other hazardous working conditions requiring the use of PPE.
