Laborer - Underground Utilities Specialist

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Laborer to join our Telecom Underground team at Kanaan Communications, LLC. As a Laborer, you will play a critical role in all phases of underground construction, including loading, delivery, digging, and equipment operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Load, deliver, and place various types and sizes of construction materials and equipment
  • Hand dig using shovels and mechanical tools
  • Install and maintain underground telecommunications cabling
  • Climb into and out of equipment, such as trucks, cars, backhoes, and trenchers
  • Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery
  • Work in congested or remote areas, maintaining visual and audible contact with other crew members and moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects
  • Perform general construction work under the direction of a Foreman/Supervisor
  • Flagging, property, or worksite restoration
  • Maintain safe working habits and conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies
Requirements
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Authorization to work in the United States for this company
  • High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
  • A valid driver's license
  • Pass a DOT physical exam, resulting in a valid medical card
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.
Physical Abilities & Exposures
  • Perform the above duties for at least 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, with the possibility of overtime, after-hours, weekends, emergencies, or on-call
  • Duties require standing, crouching, sitting, bending, using hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low
  • Ability to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, and a hard hat
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold temperatures, inclement weather, and adverse driving conditions
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, or other airborne pathogens
  • Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 LBS as needed with or without assistance
