Civil Engineering Estimator for Wet Utilities

Job Overview: We are looking for a dedicated Civil Project Estimator with a focus on Wet Utilities. The successful candidate will have a solid background in estimating costs for wet utility construction projects and a comprehensive understanding of project management practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify potential projects to bid on, interpret bid documents, and analyze plans and drawings.
  • Participate in pre-bid and project meetings.
  • Develop bid scopes that encompass necessary labor, materials, and equipment within specified project timelines.
  • Plan and schedule manpower and equipment resources.
  • Recognize job conflicts and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) and Change Proposals (CPs).
  • Maintain effective relationships with vendors, agencies, and team members.
  • Conduct plan take-offs.
  • Create detailed cost estimates and project schedules.
  • Review subcontractor bids for precision and thoroughness.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive, competitive bid proposals.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure estimates align with overall project budgets.
  • Engage in value engineering to enhance project costs while maintaining quality standards.
  • Monitor and revise estimates in response to project modifications and unexpected conditions.
  • Track and assess project expenditures and budgets to ensure financial efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant industry standards and regulations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience in Wet Utilities.
  • Practical field experience in underground utilities including sewer, water, storm drains, basins, and fire systems.
  • Familiarity with dry utilities (gas).
  • Proficient in Excel and/or other relevant software.
  • Understanding of civil and public works.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Availability for a standard workweek.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, ProEst, or similar).
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and juggle multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal construction regulations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience managing construction project budgets and timelines.
  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering principles and practices.
