Position Overview

Become a Key Contributor at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts

The Arts Education Facilitator (Musical Theater) is a dedicated artist and educator specializing in musical theater, committed to engaging with diverse groups including children, teens, adults, and educators. This role encompasses teaching various components of the Arts Education Partnership Program, Professional Development Workshops, and other instructional initiatives as designated.

Situated in a vibrant downtown location, the Straz offers adaptable hours, event-driven schedules including evenings and weekends, and a collaborative work atmosphere.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement educational arts programming tailored to specific age demographics (from Pre-K to Adult).
  • Instruct students in various theater arts disciplines, including acting, improvisation, playwriting, movement, vocal production, musical theater, and technical theater production.
  • Provide each participant with constructive evaluations (either verbal or written) along with tailored feedback and suggestions for further study if they wish to pursue additional interests.
  • Submit course outlines as required to the Community Engagement and Theater Departments.
  • Participate in professional development workshops and team meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Community Partnership Coordinator on scheduling and curriculum development for program sites.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as submitting lesson plans, assessments, teaching schedules, program documentation, and other assigned duties.
  • Engage in pre-planning and post-planning discussions with Partnership Site Staff and the Community Partnership Coordinator.
  • Act as a representative and ambassador for the Community Partnership Program at various community events as needed.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Professional experience as an artist in the field within the last five years.
  • Proven ability to implement effective classroom management strategies to foster a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Strong prioritization and multitasking abilities.
  • Collaborative decision-making skills within a team setting.
  • Detail-oriented with the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must possess reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and appropriate auto insurance coverage.

Educational Background and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Theater Performance, Theater Arts, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant certification or substantial training and/or performance experience is required.
  • Demonstrated experience as a theater educator.
