Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Special Education Assistant to join our team at Rainbow Center. As a Special Education Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the daily activities of our consumers, ensuring their safety and well-being, and promoting their independence.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist with Daily Activities: Assist consumers with arrival and dismissal, toileting, lunchtime, and community outings as needed. Provide support in the classroom and with individual consumers as requested.
  2. Curriculum Planning: Collaborate with supervisory staff to plan curriculum and activities tailored to the individual needs and skills of our consumers.
  3. Behavior Management: Utilize appropriate behavior management techniques to assist in implementing successful and individualized consumer plans.
  4. Schedule Facilitation: Facilitate the program schedule and routine to ensure a smooth and efficient day.
  5. Physical Support: Use proper lifting techniques to assist consumers with toileting and transitions as needed.
  6. Training and Development: Attend required in-service and training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  7. Facility Maintenance: Work cooperatively to maintain facility housekeeping tasks, including keeping activity areas clean and tidy.
  8. Equipment and Material Maintenance: Collaborate with colleagues to maintain the orderliness, sanitization, and cleanliness of equipment and materials.
  9. Grooming Support: Assist with grooming needs of consumers, promoting their independence and dignity.
  10. Lifting and Mobility: Demonstrate the ability to lift consumers using a two-man lift and lift at least 50 pounds.
  11. Professional Conduct: Maintain a professional demeanor and adhere to Rainbow Center's dress code policy.
  12. Training Requirements: Successfully complete the Mandt System of Managing People training program.
  13. Policy Adherence: Carefully review and adhere to Rainbow Center's Staff Handbook and policy manual.
  14. Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
  1. Age and Education: Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical confirming absence of contagious diseases and ability to lift 50+ pounds. Must provide proof of a TB test.
  3. Criminal Background Check: Must undergo a criminal record check and abuse check in compliance with Rainbow Center's policy.
  4. Application Process: The application process consists of completing our employment application, initial interview with Human Resources, and a practical volunteer opportunity to assess your fit with our team.
