Position Title: Reliability Engineering Specialist
Reports To: Maintenance Reliability Manager

JOB OBJECTIVE:

The Reliability Engineering Specialist is responsible for championing the implementation of best practices in reliability. This role involves evaluating new methodologies and technologies to continuously enhance equipment reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with various plant teams to identify, assess, and implement opportunities for reliability improvements through modifications to operating and maintenance procedures, as well as equipment upgrades.
  • Analyzing equipment performance history to pinpoint areas for reliability enhancement.
  • Applying root cause analysis techniques to address issues or failures that have led to significant machine downtime or maintenance costs.
  • Engaging in the selection and deployment of new equipment to ensure that reliability and maintainability principles are integrated into design and implementation processes.
  • Supporting the Autonomous Maintenance initiative by contributing to the design and selection of operator inspections and tasks aimed at sustaining equipment condition and performance.

Reliability Strategies:

  • Advocating for the effectiveness of planned corrective maintenance over reactive maintenance.
  • Promoting time-based preventive maintenance as superior to planned corrective maintenance.
  • Encouraging condition-based (predictive) maintenance as more effective than time-based preventive maintenance.
  • Emphasizing that prevention of maintenance is the most comprehensive maintenance strategy.

Performance Monitoring:

  • Participating in audits to measure and validate progress and performance in the reliability journey.
  • Utilizing reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) principles to optimize maintenance strategies for equipment.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and assisting in training efforts to ensure data integrity and accuracy.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a degree in engineering and a minimum of five years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on reliability and maintainability. A thorough understanding of methodologies such as Failure Modes and Effects Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is essential. The candidate should also be adept at training others in reliability practices and facilitating analyses using reliability methodologies.
