We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at Ascension Via Christi in Manhattan, Kansas. As a Forensic Nurse Examiner, you will play a critical role in providing patient care and referrals to individuals who have been sexually assaulted.
Responsibilities- Take a medical history and account of the assault from the patient, assessing their psychological condition and performing a physical examination.
- Collect and preserve all evidence, collect relevant specimens, and document findings.
- Provide direct nursing care of injuries and prophylactic medications, referring to appropriate personnel/facility for further treatment as necessary.
- Communicate with victims and their families regarding evidence collection, treatment recommendations, and reporting to law enforcement (except in cases of mandated reporting).
- Provide victim advocacy and/or expert testimony in court trials.
- Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- Required Credential(s): BLS Provider obtained within 1 month of hire date or job transfer date, American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
- Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Kansas Board of Nursing.
- Preferred Credential(s): Certification specializing in Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.
- Education:
- Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required.
- Completion of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training SANE-A within 12 months and completion of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training SANE-P within 16 months, if applicable.
