Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to join our team. As a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, you will be responsible for providing residents with opportunities for recreation through specific programming.
Responsibilities include:
- Completing initial, quarterly, and annual resident assessments in conjunction with the Director of Resident Life.
- Providing residents with opportunities for recreation through specific programming, including creating programs and materials as needed.
- Scheduling and leading social groups in conjunction with the Resident Life Case Manager and/or Resident Life Social Worker and/or Resident Life Social Work Intern.
- Reviewing, recommending, and updating Leisure, Life and Play Skills as well as therapeutic goals in the resident care plan and resident chart.
- Assisting with implementing a MOVE program in conjunction with the therapy and nursing departments.
- Leading and participating in community outings with residents.
- Participating in and presenting ongoing trainings with Resident Life Department Staff in holistic care and therapeutic recreational techniques.
- Completing resident discharge planning as needed, which includes helping families and residents find and utilize community resources to maintain and improve wellness after discharge.
- Completing MDS assessments and updating care plans in conjunction with the Director of Resident Life.
- Providing appropriate supervision of residents and managing all program needs and occurrences in the absence of the Director or Resident Life and/or Senior Resident Life Assistants.
- Ensuring all equipment and activity spaces remain in good, clean conditions.
- Assisting in carrying out any resident's specific behavior program, including the completion of required documentation, as necessary.
- Assisting residents with Activities of Daily Living as needed.
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A Bachelor's degree in the field of Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a similar field.
- A NYS Driver's License.
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Certification (CTRS).
- At least 1 year of related experience in care and activities programs for multi-handicapped individuals.
- The ability to read and comprehend IEP, resident medical charts as needed for planning programs.
