The Clinical Dietitian II plays a vital role in the Outpatient Nutrition Services team at UNC Health, working closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to coordinate evidence-based medical nutrition therapy. This position requires a strong understanding of the Nutrition Care Process and the ability to apply it in a clinical setting.
Key Responsibilities- Nutrition Care Planning: Develop, implement, and monitor nutrition care plans for patients, ensuring that their nutritional needs are met and their health outcomes are improved.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work effectively with healthcare teams, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure seamless care coordination and communication.
- Education and Training: Provide education and training to patients, families, and healthcare teams on nutrition-related topics, using established behavioral change techniques.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to enhance patient care and outcomes.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Lead, direct, and manage the work assigned to others within the department, providing guidance and support to ensure successful outcomes.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or a related field from a US regionally accredited university or college, with coursework accredited or approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
- Licensure/Certification: Registered Dietitian (RD) by The Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) and Licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition.
- Experience: Three years as an RD with two years of experience in the area of clinical specialty, or five years of experience as an RD with certification in the area of clinical specialty.
- Nutrition Care Process: Comprehensive knowledge and application of the Nutrition Care Process, including assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and monitoring.
- Clinical Nutrition: In-depth knowledge of clinical nutrition, including medical nutrition therapy and nutrition-focused physical exam.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with healthcare teams and patients.
- Leadership and Management: Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead, direct, and manage the work assigned to others within the department.
