Job Summary

The Neighborhood Association is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Technician to oversee the daily internal and external maintenance of our facility. This is a critical role that requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly walk-throughs to inspect all facility common areas
  • Assist with the oversight of internal and external facility-related systems, tests, and inspections
  • Manage the Callahan and other NYS facility inspections with other facility supervisors
  • Itemize projects needed throughout the year and prioritize them
  • Respond immediately to emergencies during off-hours and rectify the related issues
  • Ensure compliance with city, state, and federal building codes and industry standards
  • Obtain and maintain licenses and certifications needed to operate the facility legally and safely
  • Assist in the development of maintenance goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Recruit, supervise, monitor, and evaluate food handling/housekeeping and maintenance staff members
  • Establish and implement schedules and work assignments for food handling/housekeeping and maintenance staff
  • Monitor and control facilities supplies and equipment, and maintain daily stock
  • Attend and participate in facility and professional group meetings as scheduled
  • Prepare and clean the garbage room to ensure weekly removal of trash and recyclables
  • Remove snow and salts ice on the exterior grounds of the facility
  • Maintain awareness of new trends and developments in the field of food handling/housekeeping, and maintenance
  • Maintain ongoing communication with facilities and other departmental supervisors concerning facility issues
  • Work diplomatically to solve problems in the facility
  • Produce weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports
Requirements
  • At least three (3) years of increasingly responsible food handling and housekeeping experience in a residential facility, including some lead supervisory experience of at least three (3) staff
  • Completion of a vocational/technical certification/license program in a related field is preferred; a High School Diploma/GED is required
  • Food handler certificate NYC/NYS
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Certification
  • CPR / First Aid
  • Fire Safety Certification preferred; F-80, F-02, S-12, & S-13,
  • Boiler Certification
  • NY Valid Driver License, if authorized to drive agency vehicle
  • Able to operate related equipment, tools, and materials used in the facility
  • Knowledge of city, state, and federal building codes and industry standards
  • Proficiency in software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Knowledge and experience of interacting with dual diagnosis personalities
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively well with diverse groups
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and efficient
  • Maturity, integrity, and sound judgment
Working Environment
  • Regularly stand, sit, and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell
  • Frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • Frequently exposed to wet and or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and extreme heat
