Position Overview:

The Yard Operations Supervisor will oversee and direct all activities related to yard operations, ensuring the safe handling and storage of incoming and outgoing trailers, as well as the precise check-in of deliveries and check-out of shipments.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Two to four years of pertinent experience in a warehouse or distribution center setting is preferred, along with experience managing a team of 10 or more direct reports.
  • Familiarity with yard mule operations is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated success in achieving results, managing workflows, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety regulations is highly preferred.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to perform well under pressure.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Yard Management Systems is a plus.
  • Capacity to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively across various levels and diverse cultures, with the capability to lead team initiatives.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment background check.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of 10 or more employees, ensuring optimal service levels are achieved.
  • Engage in performance reviews, management, and recognition for team members.
  • Coach, train, and mentor Distribution Center (DC) staff in productivity, quality, and safety standards.
  • Generate reports for warehouse operations and monitor team performance.
  • Collaborate with carriers, the DC dispatch team, jockey truck operators, and the DC Logistics team for effective daily planning and execution.
  • Address and resolve conflicts, process team member requests, and proactively engage team members in team-building activities.
  • Ensure equipment maintenance through collaboration with approved service providers.
  • Operate all equipment safely and efficiently, adhering to established work methods.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient working environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.
Work Environment:
  • This is an hourly position, which may require working hours that exceed eight hours in a day or forty hours in a week. Working hours may vary based on business requirements, including flexible shifts.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary, including air and car travel.
  • While fulfilling the responsibilities of this role, employees will frequently be exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles, with a noise level that typically ranges from moderate to noisy.
Physical Requirements:

Medium Work - The ability to exert 30-60 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20-30 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Employees may be required to use their hands and fingers for handling or feeling. They may also need to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. There may be occasional exposure to outdoor conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and/or humidity, as well as uneven walking surfaces and working around machinery or heavy equipment.
