Job Title: Public Information Officer - Director of Communications

Job Summary:

The Oxnard Harbor District is seeking a highly skilled Public Information Officer - Director of Communications to join our team. As a key member of our Commercial and Public Affairs department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies to enhance the Port's public image and reputation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement communication plans to inform the public about Port activities, projects, and initiatives.
  • Oversee public relations efforts to enhance the Port's image and manage its reputation.
  • Lead the planning, creative development, and execution of impactful marketing campaigns across various channels.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to produce high-quality marketing materials.
  • Conduct market research to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive insights.
  • Act as the primary contact for media inquiries and manage media relations.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to the public and media during emergencies or crises.
  • Monitor media coverage and public perception, and prepare reports on communication activities and outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in public communications and/or brand marketing, with a proven track record of success.
  • Experience as a people manager preferred.
  • Strong public speaking skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and digital communication tools.
