Position Overview

The Raleigh office of Coffman Engineers is in search of a Senior Civil Engineer with a minimum of eight years of experience in designing site layouts, grading, drainage systems, utility infrastructure, roadways, and erosion control strategies.

We are a dynamic, multidisciplinary firm seeking innovative, results-driven individuals who uphold the highest standards of performance, teamwork, and service excellence in our industry. The ideal candidate will be eager to contribute to the growth of Coffman's Civil Engineering Department and will possess the following qualifications:

Key Engineering Skills and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and lead internal project teams in developing Construction Documents for site development.
  • Independently tackle challenging technical assignments.
  • Positively influence office and departmental goals, culture, and morale.
  • Manage and engage in multiple projects simultaneously and profitably.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, regulators, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate drawings and designs with external consultants, including architects and engineers.
  • Exhibit strong organizational, technical, and communication skills.
  • Commit to efficient task completion within established schedules.
  • Execute work in accordance with agreed budgets and timelines with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and various Civil Engineering design software.
  • Utilize stormwater modeling programs such as Hydro CAD, Storm CAD, and SWWM (or similar).
  • Possess a working knowledge of Windows, MS Office, and Google Apps.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program is required.
  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience providing consulting services for internal and external clients, including site grading, earthwork calculations, road design, drainage calculations and reports, erosion and sediment control design, utility layout and sizing, technical report writing, and preparation of technical specifications.
  • Experience with construction documentation for State, Federal, and Private projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required.
  • Lead project teams comprising junior and experienced engineers to deliver project design outputs.
  • Oversee the development of preliminary to final design calculations and drawings.
  • Conduct site due diligence and entitlement investigations.
  • Review field data and perform inspections of existing stormwater facilities.
  • Engage in technical writing for design reports and permitting applications.
