Position Summary

The Junior Financial Analyst will provide essential financial insights to management by conducting thorough research and analysis of accounting data, as well as preparing comprehensive reports. This role is crucial in ensuring that financial data related to cash, investments, and property taxes is accurately reflected in Port Houston's financial records and statements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the integrity of financial data within the financial system, adhering to guidelines set forth by relevant authorities.
  • Compile and analyze account information to prepare entries for assets, liabilities, and capital accounts, including bank reconciliations and interest transactions.
  • Document financial transactions by accurately entering account information.
  • Analyze accounting options to recommend appropriate financial actions.
  • Summarize current financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other relevant reports.
  • Audit documents to substantiate financial transactions.
  • Prepare and recommend policies and procedures to maintain accounting controls.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and securities to identify and resolve financial discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations by studying existing and new legislation and advising management on necessary actions.
  • Assist in the preparation of regulatory reports and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
  • Support the accounting team during the annual audit process.
Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution is required. Candidates pursuing a CPA license are preferred. The ideal candidate will have 0-2 years of general accounting experience, with a preference for those with banking reconciliation experience.

Skills and Abilities
  • Solid understanding of financial accounting principles and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong analytical skills for account analysis.
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
