Position Overview

Work Schedule: Saturdays 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

As a CT Imaging Specialist, you will be responsible for operating advanced Computed Tomography (CT) machinery, preparing patients for diagnostic imaging, and ensuring that all necessary information is accurately gathered for the physician's assessment. You will play a crucial role in managing patient throughput, data reconstruction, and transmitting images for interpretation by the medical team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Preparation:
    • Clearly communicate procedures to patients and set up equipment to ensure timely execution of imaging tasks.
    • Confirm that consent for intravenous (IV) contrast materials has been secured.
    • Conduct pregnancy screenings as necessary.
  • CT Imaging Procedures:
    • Conduct a variety of CT examinations, including abdominal, thoracic, neurological, and extremity scans, as well as assist in radiation therapy planning and biopsies.
    • Position patients correctly on the examination table within the CT gantry.
    • Input patient history and relevant details from the requisition provided by the Radiologist, focusing on the anatomical area of interest.
    • Adjust slice thickness and couch increments, collaborating with the Radiologist to modify parameters within established imaging protocols as needed.
    • Calculate the number of scans required based on patient size and ensure that all necessary images are captured as per Radiologist orders.
    • Select appropriate exposure settings based on the anatomical site and patient demographics, adhering to established CTDI standards.
    • Utilize protective devices to minimize radiation exposure to sensitive areas.
    • Adjust CT equipment to ensure the correct field of view is captured.
    • Transmit cases to the on-call Radiologist using the Tele-Radiology system.
  • Contrast Administration:
    • Administer IV and oral contrast agents as per Radiologist directives.
    • Verify that there are no contraindications for the administration of IV contrast agents.
    • Calculate the appropriate contrast dosage based on the patient's weight.
    • Perform venipuncture with the correct gauge for the examination.
    • Explain the IV contrast administration process in layman's terms and complete the IV Contrast Information Sheet with details provided by the patient or their representative.
    • Utilize appropriate techniques for flushing existing IV lines when necessary and employ power injectors for IV contrast delivery.
    • Recognize and assist in managing any reactions to contrast agents or IV extravasations.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology program is required.
  • Licensure as a Radiologic Technologist from the New York State Department of Health, with certification in IV contrast administration, is mandatory.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists registration in Computed Tomography R.T. (CT)(ARRT) is required within a specified timeframe upon entering the position.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS or BCLS) is essential.
  • Prior experience in CT imaging is preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of CT equipment and imaging protocols is required.

Various factors may influence the determination of a team member's base salary and/or rate, including location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget considerations, and internal equity.
