Job Description:

Job Title: IBM Power Systems Administrator

Location: Remote

Job Type: Full-time

Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and manage IBM pSeries/Power Systems hardware and AIX operating systems.
  • Perform routine system maintenance, including patching, upgrades, and tuning to optimize performance.
  • Monitor system performance and proactively address any issues related to CPU, memory, disk usage, and I/O.
  • Ensure system availability through effective disaster recovery, backup, and restoration processes.
  • Administer storage subsystems, including SAN and NAS environments associated with IBM Power Systems.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues and work with vendors (like IBM) to resolve issues as needed.
  • Implement and manage virtualization using IBM PowerVM, including configuration and administration of LPARs (Logical Partitions) and DLPARs (Dynamic Logical Partitions).
  • Maintain system security by applying updates, managing access control, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and standards.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Create and maintain system documentation, including hardware and software inventories, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Collaborate with application, network, and database teams to ensure smooth integration of systems and applications.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as an IBM pSeries Administrator with in-depth knowledge of IBM Power Systems and AIX.
  • Strong experience with AIX system administration, including installation, patching, and upgrades.
  • Experience with PowerVM virtualization, LPAR/DLPAR configuration, and management.
  • Proficient in performance tuning, troubleshooting, and system monitoring.
  • Familiarity with IBM PowerHA, GPFS (General Parallel File System), and other high availability solutions.
  • Experience working with storage technologies, including SAN, NAS, and storage management tools.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, security practices, and system hardening.
  • Ability to write and maintain scripts (Shell, Perl, Python) to automate routine tasks.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with various departments.
  • IBM Certified System Administrator AIX or IBM Power Systems certification (preferred).
