Job Summary

The Firefly Propulsion Manufacturing Engineering Team is responsible for the fabrication, integration, test, and delivery of fully integrated propulsion systems for the Alpha, MLV launch vehicles and Blue Ghost and Elytra spacecraft vehicles.

As a key member of this team, you will take ownership of propulsion components from design release to delivery, working closely with cross-functional teams to drive manufacturing processes to scale production.

This position will be focused on leading a team of manufacturing engineers in the fabrication, assembly, and checkout of propulsion subassemblies and engines.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead a team of manufacturing engineers in the fabrication, assembly, and checkout of propulsion subassemblies and engines.
  2. Drive continuous process development and improvement to increase production rate and reduce cost.
  3. Mentor team members through investigations of process failures and drive corrective actions to closure.
  4. Lead the development, test, and qualification of new production processes.
  5. Work closely with production teams to manage assembly build schedule and improve accuracy by collecting and processing relevant data.
  6. Establish and implement standards for manufacturing readiness reviews, new product integration, and production handoff.
  7. Own and maintain manufacturing controls within Firefly's Enterprise Resource Planning software.
  8. Drive strategic initiatives to ensure the team is operating at the most innovative manufacturing technology capabilities.
  9. Establish and implement standards for tooling and fixturing design, review, and commissioning.
  10. Participate in design reviews to drive design-for-manufacturing initiatives and implement lessons learned.

Requirements
  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  2. 7+ years' professional work experience with manufacturing complex assemblies or tools.
  3. 1+ years of engineering leadership experience.
  4. Deep knowledge of GD&T best practices and familiarity with ASME Y14.5.
  5. Proven mechanical aptitude.
  6. Able to read and interpret technical drawings and assembly instructions.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey methodologies for assembly and troubleshooting.
  8. Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills - Must be a team player.
  9. Proven experience with tasks requiring extreme attention to detail and prolonged mental concentration.
  10. Ability to thrive in high-stakes, stressful, short-deadline environments.
  11. Critical thinking and strong decision-making ability.
  12. Demonstrated results with scaling up business operations.
  13. Proven demonstration of acting as a process-oriented change agent.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Proven experience leading teams.
  2. Experience with modern manufacturing principles, such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, etc.
  3. Experience with complex system assembly and hands-on build experience preferably in space systems or aerospace applications.
  4. Experience with writing assembly procedures or documentation for mechanical, electrical, or structural systems.
  5. Experience writing test plans, procedures, and identifying pass/fail criteria on systems.
  6. Knowledge of data analysis packages (Python/high-level Excel) preferred.
  7. Experience using CAD and FEA-based analysis software.
